I prefer living in hostels because they are much cheaper than hotels, they’re excellent for meeting people and getting to know them.

1.  Tubagua Ecolodge

I’m not much of a nature lover but if you are, I discovered this tranquil spot!

Located off the beaten path, Tubagua Ecolodge features spectacular oceanfront views from 1000 feet above sea level.

It’s just 20 minutes from the Puerto Plata airport, its renowned airport, and its attractions.

It also boasts 12- acres of Tubagua Plantation, making it a suitable spot to camp for travelers driving around the country.

2.  Villa Carolina

A friendly, down-to-earth Italian Dominican family owns Villa Carolina. It’s located in the center of Puerto Plata, just 20 minutes from the tourist-famed Kite Beach. Also, it’s only a few minutes from Downtown POP. They also offer 40 tours around the village and water sports lessons.

The accommodation includes nine rooms, two triple rooms, and a variety of other double and single rooms. It also includes a parking lot, bar, swimming pool, and terrace with lovely views. The services offered include 24/7 security, Wi-Fi access, breakfast, paid airport shuttle, and more.

3.  Hostel Long Beach

Just 3.1 km from the Macorix House of Rum and 3.5 km from the history museum, Fort San Felipe, resides a worthwhile hostel, Hostel Long Beach!

Although there’s no on-site restaurant, I spotted Portofino, a unique restaurant just a 5-minute walk, offering Italian cuisine.

Some categories of rooms include Quadruple Room Bathroom, Bed 4-Bed Dormitory Room, King Room Sea View, and more.

The rooms are equipped with Wi-Fi, an air conditioner, a trouser press, coffee, and tea-making facilities, an oven, a fridge, and basic kitchenware.

Moreover, all rooms have a sitting area, dressing area, and dining table.

4.  Hostel Mountain & Ocean View

Next comes Hostel Mountain & Ocean View!

It’s 645 m from the center, at Avenida Manolo T. Justo in San Felipe de Puerto Plata.

I enjoyed a handful of walking tours to the top tourist attractions.

The hostel offers a shuttle service from and to the airport.

The amenities include internet access, parking lots, and more.

Guests get to choose from a range of rooms, including double and dormitory rooms.

However, for a comfier stay, tourists only choose from two accommodation types.

The hostel staff is also friendly and can speak English and Spanish.

For those looking for a family-friendly hostel, Casa Azul is a great option!

The accommodation options include an apartment and private rooms.

It offers an array of amenities like a single room boasting a private bathroom, a double room featuring a fan, a mini-fridge, and a private bathroom.

I booked a private room, and all of the private rooms have to share the kitchen, dining room, salon, and balcony with the owner, making for exposure to another amazing experience.

It also has a secluded private garden with BBQ facilities and a shaded seating area – my fav spot for gossiping with owners and other guests.
