Best hostels in Santo Domingo. Now, I’m going to be honest, I have not stayed in many hostels when travel to DR. I’d say a total of five but if you are traveling on a tight budget which has been the case several trips of my own, then hostels are a great option. These also make great places for making new friends when traveling and enjoying a more joyful social experience.
Santo Domingo is lined with loads of noteworthy hostels where you can stay during your travel. These include prominent names like La Choza, Hostel 57, and more. After trying out a couple of hostels Santo Domingo is known for and researching the others, I have compiled this list of the six best. Let’s explore!
6 Best Hostels in the Historic DR Capital
Hop on below to learn in-depth about the six best hostels in Santo Domingo.
1. Island Life Hostel
Island Life Hostel is a prominent name in Zona Colonial, the oldest settlement in European history. It’s located 350 meters from the Casas Reales Museum and 200 meters from the Alcázar de Colón square Island. Moreover, it’s near some great shopping spots, lively bars, and fine dining restaurants.
It boasts a swimming pool and offers free Wi-Fi in public areas. We also get a garden, BBQ facilities, and a hot tub. Other facilities include a tour desk that is of great help, a shared lounge – the perfect spot for gossiping with other tourists and locals, and a game room where one can unwind battling with fellow hostellers.
2. La Choza
If you are looking for a budget-friendly hostel that offers all the necessary amenities, including a comfortable and clean environment, La Choza must be your first and foremost choice! In this hostel, you get all you can expect, along with the outdoor kitchen and pool.
It’s located in Zona Colonial and features several shared private rooms with free Wi-Fi and great ambiance. Luckily, I got a room with garden views and a patio. It was indeed worth a living experience!
3. Hostal La Colonia by The Oxo House
This hotel is located in the heart of Santo Domingo, 1.3 km from Guibia Beach and 1.5 km from Montesinos. Museo de las casas reales, Agora Mall, and Blue Mall are also in proximity to the hostel, adding to its worth. Moreover, the La Isabela International Airport is just 19 km from the hostel.
All the rooms are equipped with private bathrooms, flat-screen TVs, and air conditioning facilities. Besides being the best spot for solo travelers, couples can find this hostel the best accommodation!
4. Hostel 57
Next, I have Hostel 57 on the list! It’s a high-end family hostel residing in the Cultural Heritage of Santo Domingo. It stands close to a plethora of notable sites, including Montesinos – just 1 km away; Torrecillas Beach – just a 16-minute walk away; and Guibia – just 1.4 km away.
It features four rooms in total with 24 beds. If you plan to visit with friends or have planned a huge family trip, book their Don Luis room, which is perfect for 12 people. The boys’ group can book for The Killers Room. Room names are pretty funny, though. All rooms include a microwave, and selective ones also feature a kitchen with appliances of regular use, like a toaster.
5. La Casita de Gazcue
Do you want accommodation in Downtown Santo Domingo near Guibia Beach, Puerto Santo Domingo, or Catedral Primade de America? Book La casita de Gazcue! It’s 1.5 km from Montesinos, 6.1 km from Agora Mall, and 5.7 km from Blue Mall. It’s just 3.3 km from the historic city center, meaning you can get quick access to all of the major attractions in Santo Domingo.
The main attractions in the guest rooms are the flat-screen TVs, white-washed walls, well-lit rooms, well-designed roofs, and wood furniture. I also loved the paintings in the room, adding to aesthetics and making them more appealing.
6. We Hostel and Suites Miraflores by Stand Out Hotels Collection
Lastly, We Hostel and Suites is also worth a shout-out! Although this is the last option on my list, not the least in importance. This lavish hostel boasts a restaurant, a bar, and a shared lounge. It’s situated right in the center of the DR capital, near the renowned Guibia Beach, Malecon, Puerto Santo Domingo, and Blue Mall.
The offered accommodation includes concierge service, free Wi-Fi, non-smoking rooms, and more. What else add to making it the best spot to live in Sant Domingo is that it’s a few km away from the famous Expresso Bavaro and Agora Mall.
